The Vietnamese people are more agessive than most in southeast Asia.  If you are coming from Laos or Cambodia expect the hard sell and 100 questions every time you pass through your hotel reception or see a taxi driver.  However there are lots of friendly Vietnamese people, and travelling by train is a good way to meet the real people, rather than those connected with the travel industry.
