Visa Extensions at Samui Immigration Office, Ko Samui, Ko Phangan, Ko Tao

It is possible to extend a 60 day tourist visa in Thailand for another 30 days.  This is available to almost everyone, unless you have some bad history with Thai immigration.  The process is quick and easy, and takes about 1 hour.

The Ko Samui immigration office is an easy place to get this visa extension.  The staff are friendly, and the service prompt.

From Ko Phangan or Ko Tao take a ferry to the Nathon ferry terminal on Samui.  Make sure it’s the Nathon terminal, is it’s very close to here.  You can walk from the ferry to the immigration office, but it will take 30 minutes, so maybe better to take a pickup.

Types of visa service available

30 day extension to 60 day tourist visa – Costs 1,920 Baht.  Takes about 1 hour.

Finding the office

The Ko Samui immigration office is 1 – 2 km south of Nathon, the main town on the Northwest corner of the island.  Local pickups and taxis will drop you there, or you can easily find it on a scooter, as it is signposted about 2kms before the office, and again at the actual office.

There is parking for scooters and bigger vehicles.

They sell refreshments at normal shop prices.  There is a nice seating area outside the office.

What you need

To extend a visa you will need the following:

  • Your passport (with 6 months validity remaining)
  • 1,920 Baht fee
  • 2 passport sized photos
  • 1 x photocopy of your passport photo page
  • 1 x photocopy of your visa & entry stamp page (these are almost always on the same page in your passport)
  • 1 x photocopy of your TM.6 immigration card (the one they staple into your passport)
  • 1 x TM.7 visa extension form (get this at the immigration office.  You can download from their website, but better to get it there).

Note:  Right outside the immigration office is a small shop that will photocopy your passport.  So you can get everything there.

I’ve been in and out of Thailand for 5 years now, and the rules are ever changing. Please, can someone re-assure me that I can extend my 60 day visa by 30 more days on KoSamui for about 1900 baut? Some folks are saying we can only extend 2 weeks now. It’s been 2 years since the this site was updated. ANY information would be greatly appreciated along with an expedient response as I am running out of time and need to book a flight out if necessary.

Best regards and thanks for having more useful info. than any other site I looked at!

I can’t find up to date information inline.
As you are short of time I think you should call the Samui immigration office:

  2. I just called the Samui
I just called the Samui immigration office who said there’d be no problem in extending my 60 day tourist visa for an extra 30 days if I went there before my current visa runs out. I’m going there tomorrow so hopefully there’ll be no problem. I’ll report back on here once it’s sorted to let people like me who have been searching for answers for days know what the score is!

    1. Good news.
      Thanks for posting

OK, so this morning, I took a boat at 7am from Koh Pha-Ngan to Koh Samui, got a motorbike taxi to the Immigration office for 50 Baht. I had 4 photocopies taken (which was a bit expensive at 40 Baht) of my visa, passport and date stamp and then went inside to fill in the form, which was really easy.
I handed over 1900 Baht and they told me to come back in half an hour. I went for a really nice coffee over the road and then went back to the office where my extended visa was waiting for me.
It seems that you’ll need a 60 day tourist visa obtained from another country. In my case, this was from Delhi and I was entitled to the 30 day extension.
Very easy, not worth worrying about for myself anyway and the people inside were very friendly and helpful.
    Hope this helps some others…

      This for the information.
This sounds like the same process I went through.
My 60 days visa was from Phnom Pehn in Cambodia. I got the 30 day extension on Samui.

  4. What about extentions of 15 day visas?
    Hi,

I just arrived in Thailand via a land border from Malaysia, and was granted a 15 days visa (as per normal). Any info on if I can get my 15 day visa extended/a re-entry visa granted in Ko Samui?

    1. You can only extent a visa
You can only extent a visa that was obtained from a Thai Embassy in an other country. If you just got an entry stamp at a border you can not extent.

      1. extend entry stamp
        that is not correct.
you CAN “extend” the entry stamp, but just for 7 days in that case…
        its 1900baht, same price.
so quite expensive for 7 days 😉

We have been to the samui immigration office today. We only had a 30 day visa so could only extend for 7 days cost was 1900 bhat.If you have a 60 d visa it’s the same price but you get 60 days. You need photocopys of your passport and a photo of your self. They will do this at the office for 160 Bhat per person. We had to wait an hour so went for some food. Quite busy office and not well organized but ok experience.

  11. Visa Extensions at Samui Immigration Office
This is now the second time I have done this visa extension and again no problems.
Im in Koh Tao and took the first boat out at 6am as it goes to Nathon pier. Since it gets in at 8am and the office doesn’t open until 830am me and a friend walked it, it only took 35 mins and this is two out of shape people wearing flip flops. Had to pop in to the internet shop across the road to get a photo copy, they also do passport photos. Then headed in to the office. After that we got a taxi to the other side of the island so we could go shopping, Big C, Makro and Tescos. Got a taxt back to the office for 4pm and got the last boat out at 5pm, which also leaves from Nathon pier. Taxis from one side of the island to the other should cost about 600, shouldn’t have to pay more then that. A guy wanted 1200B to take us back, telling us that the immigration office was miles away from the ferry port, after we told him we walked it a few hour before hand we walk off and got one for 600. We stopped twice to get KFC and pick up our now finished passports before taking us back to the pier. Tipped him another 100b for hanging around. Very easy to find, walk out the pier, turn right and keep walking, that road will connect to another main road which you stay on until you reach a set of traffic lights, then its there on your right.

    1. Nathon visa extention
      Hi Mike,

You say you have done this twice, may I ask you if you visa extensions were back to back? Or was the second extension on another visit?

      Many thanks

      Nick

  12. Can I do two nathon visa extentions consecutively
    Hi there,

I arrived in Thailand with out a visa and got a 30 day stamp with my New Zealand passport.
I was told before I went the first time that I was only eligible for 15days, I took the risk hoping to get 30 days and I got it with no issues.
I am going back there hoping to get another 30 days and am wondering if this is possible as some people said I cant do the Nathon visit twice.
The first time I went I paid the fee of 1950 before they processed my extension, which is odd as if they didn’t except would I be reimbursed?

Im hugely appreciative of any advice anyone can provide.

    Many thanks

    Nick
