To make money from your travel blog or website you need advertising and affiliate programs. I use both. I'll talk you through all of the options so you can see what is the best option for you.

As you probably know, the travel industry is a big one. So there are lots of companies advertising products. If you have a lot of visitors to your blog or website (more than 1,000 per day) you can expect to make about $50 per day in advertising or affiliate programs. If you have significantly more visitors than this you can make quite a bit more.

Advertising

Advertising is where you place an image, banner or a piece of text advertising another websites or individuals services or products. On the right of this text you will see a Google Adsense advert. Google Adsense is the easiest advertising system to use. You earn money when people click the adverts. You can make between $0.05 and $50 per click, but typically $0.50 - $3 per click.

If you blog or website is well established you can also offer advertising space to advertisers. This is normally done with an 'Advertise here' link below your adverts. A popular blog might advertise an ad space for $50 per month.

Travel insurance affiliates

Affiliate programs work by paying you money if you refer a reader to a website, and the reader buys something on the website. For example, you might put a link on your web page about a travel insruance company. If your reader clicks the link, and buys there travel insurance from the insurer, the insurer will pay you. Normally a percentage (commission) is paid of about %10. Sometimes it is a flat rate per sale, maybe $5. The links on your web page have to exactly thos provided by the affiliate, of they won't know it is you sending the readers to their website.

Many affiliates use a broker to manage their affiliate programs, due to the complexity of such a system.
