Alentejo

The Alentejo has great beaches, which are quieter and less developed than in the Algarve. The area has lots of traditional towns, with Evora and perhaps Beja being the most interesting. Your own transport is required to get the best of the region. Backpackers should go south to the Algarve or north to Lisbon.
